Motherhood after egg donation

After egg donation treatment the recipient (who technically isn't a genetic mother) carries the pregnancy (gestational mother). Psychological interaction between the mother and a fetus, which still isn't studied well, continues after the delivery through immediate contacts between the mother and the baby, breast feeding and day-to-day communication.

In a number of studies egg donors and recipients believed that a woman carrying and delivering a baby must be considered to be the "true" mother. (Baetens et al., 2000; Weil et al., 1994). This opinion was confirmed by studies of Kirkland in which both donors and recipients believed gestational motherhood to be more important than genetic (Kirkland et al., 1992). According to another study, pregnancy, delivery and early mother-infant interaction make a baby born after egg donation the "true" offspring of the women who has given birth (Raoul-Duval et al., 1992).

We remember that each person isn't only a biological offspring of his parents but also the result of time, environment and relationships in which he grew up.
